three hours well spent:
first time drawing ace, so i'm happy since he came out kinda good. the hat was supposed to be on his right knee, but i remembered that AFTER i inked the outline. so the hat got a new place: on the ground.
i've been drawing sanji often enough that i no longer need a reference, so he just looks like the usual sanji i've drawn. ace, on the other hand, was quite complicated. i had no idea he has that many details. the freckels, the buddha necklace, the tilted belt gasper, his tattoo, the lockpost, his wristband, and his elbowband. then the ornaments on his hat. i love the two sad-happy faces. that is so original of oda.
added some line shading, a technique i've never used before. it came out pretty good, so i'm happy with that as well. oda did not use line shading in his early one piece manga, but his style seems to be evolving, getting more into the nitty-gritty detailing and whatnot, and in the latest arc (water7) his line shadings are so obvious you can't possibly miss it.
......
i just notice, it looks like ace is leaning his head on sanji's groin. dammit, it IS NOT MEANT TO BE LIKE THAT. i need to work on the depth shading.
seriously. this is NOT YAOI. ACE IS NOT LEANING HIS HEAD ON SANJI'S GROIN. and the hearty-eyes of sanji is not because of that. sanji is calling nami and robin because lunch is ready.
once again, ACE IS NOT---
ah, what the heck. enjoy, you yaoi fans.
