stairway to heaven

or to hell?

came back from studying math and got an IM from andy about led zeppelin worshipping satan.

basically the main point is that the part of the song "stairway to heaven" that goes
if there's a bustle in your hedgerow
don't be alarmed now
it's just a spring clean for the may queen
yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
there's still time to change the road you're on

when played backwards (use audacity -- select | effect | reverse) will spell out
oh here's to my sweet satan
the one whose little path would make me sad
whose power is satan
he'll give you give you six six six
there was a little toolshed
where he made us suffer, sad satan

sorry, but wtf? go here for the actual page that has the song reversed. i didn't believe it, and i still don't quite think it's true. i mean, it was rumored about this a long time ago. i've heard of this when i was still in middle school but never actually got to listen to it. this time, i have the tool so i reversed it myself, and this isn't a hoax: that part of the song DOES spell out those words.

but then again, here's what I think: english is weird. and if you just say some random words, or sentences, and record it onto a wave file then reverse it, it's gonna sound like something. inaudible, usually, but sometimes, there are some words that just spells out something when you PRONOUNCE it backwards. not as simple as rat and tar. this one does NOT PRONOUNCE the same way when you say it; it's just backwards writing, THEN spelled. but i'm sure there are some words out there that if you PRONOUNCE it backwards will spell out something else (not write it backwards, getting something from writing something backward is easy; pronouncing backward is the hard one). i can't think of anything at the top of my head, but i'm sure there are some. again, let me emphasize this, it's not like window and wodniw, or midget and tegdim.

the bottomline is, i simply think this is a coincidence. =)
