brutal honesty

ok, i have to admit this. now this entry is REALLY a confession:

i like my classes this quarter. in fact, i LOVE this quarter

1. math class is great. all the stuff makes sense and the professor is awesome. i seriously don't mind doing the homework, even though sometimes i do complain. but i DO enjoy doing the homework.

2. physics class is awesome. sharma is just so harsh to everyone it's funny. i haven't gotten the chance to actually ask questions though. not that i hate being put on the spot, but it's because everytime i have a question, he ends up answering it right before i raised my hand. and he seems like he knows what everyone has in mind since most of his answer is "that's why you're here today and that's what you will be able to conclude within the next 50 minutes." he's going hard on us. he wants us to think by our own, and it seems like he wants us to hate him so bad. maybe furor actually gives you motivation to be better?

3. physics lab is much better. driscoll is always there in the lab and the fact that he always goes off topic, he's like the neutralizer to sharma's negative charge. he takes ANY questions, no matter how stupid they are, and actually develops it into something extremely interesting. physics lab this quarter is gonna kick ass. too bad it hasn't started yet. week 4, and then i'm screwed =}

4. mae9 gives me no problem so far and i'm still ahead of schedule, so i guess that's good given that i've never gone to lecture.

5. this is the hardest part to admit. i actually enjoy humanities this quarter. much better than last quarter. last quarter it was the discussion sections i look forward to. this time it's the lecture. it's awesome to have someone who is a complete expert in what he's teaching as your teacher. and aeneid resembles the starwars epic so much i kind of like it. paper is due monday, and so far i haven't figured out my thesis YET, but i'm getting there.

6. TAship is probably the best part. even though the preparation for it is quite a pain in the ass, it makes me understand more of what i did not understand back in 4B. soundwaves and how the resonance works; it's all clear to me now. but the best part is that i can actually develop a way of teaching, or to say it in another word: develop my teaching style. at this moment i'm pretty sure i'm not gonna go far off the academia after getting my PhD, so i'll most likely end up teaching you guys' kids in the future ^_^. teaching is a fun, really. you get to interact with people, and you get to talk to them about your nerdiness, and you get the best feeling in the whole world when after you derive a bunch of crap for them and get them all pissed for not letting them copy that long-ass derivation you just wrote, you found out 10 minutes later that they're able to derive it themselves. i don't know if they're gonna even remember that tomorrow, but at least at that moment, at that time, they know. and going by socrates' definition of teaching: recollection of knowledge, i'm sure if they're somehow able to do that, or at least go about the same thinking process when taking a quiz, they'll get A's.

and there's no better satisfaction then knowing the students you've helped get A's

so for those of you who are worrying about me taking 5 classes and doing TAship at the same time (i'm not even sure if there's such you), here's what i've got to say: DONT WORRY ABOUT IT. this is the last quarter of my sophomore year, i'm going crazy again but i'm gonna enjoy it. i'll make it through this quarter alive and join you guys again next year for an exciting junior year filled with physics and math classes ^_^
