i had no idea what day this is. maybe sixth, maybe seventh, maybe even eight. i could count, but i'm lazy, so i will stop giving titles that start with day- for future posts.
apparently thinking that you have a map and having a map are not the same thing. it was quite unfortunate that i did not realize that before i went on this trip. if i had realized that, i would have saved an hour trying to figure out where things are and which way to go to find a place to stay in monterey.
santa cruz was, in a nutshell, a forest. i took a lot of pictures of the buildings over there, but no matter which way i go or which angle i took the pictures from, i could never get a clear shot of just the building. there were always trees, or at the very least ONE tree, blocking the way. kinda made you wonder if they had built the buildings somewhere else and then dropped them down from the sky after they're finished being built, because there was no way they could get massive construction vehicles into that area without knocking down the trees.
my camera had been running for a week now, with the same pair of batteries. kinda made me wonder if i still have the spare batteries with me.
it should have taken about half an hour to get from sunnyvale to santa cruz, since it's only 30 miles away, but instead it took about an hour today due to traffic confusion. yes, confusion, not congestion. apparently there was a sign up that said about how the right lane was closed, but for four freakin miles there were no signs of any lane being closed.
santa cruz was a nice place; the downtown, especially. i contemplated earlier when driving around ucsc, with the number of trees around me, about whether or not there were any environmentalists or tree-hippies living in santacruz. my trip to downtown santa cruz confirmed that. hippy girls with flowery long skirt and knee-long hair and hippy guys with goat beard and waist-long hair were just about everywhere. i wouldn't be surprised if every single tree in ucsc has names like "earth child." now if only hot naked girls would start popping out of the trees and invite me to climb up there and "join the nature" with them, that would be perfect.
the hour long drive to monterey started out smooth for about 35 miles, before the traffic literally stopped because some piece of scrap metal was blocking the left lane. from what i could make of it, that scrap piece of metal used to be a silver jetta. it no longer looked anywhere near a silver jetta when i passed by it, but it certainly used to be one.
entering monterey was an interesting sensation. since monterey was known for the bay and aquarium and the fishermen's wharf, i expected to sniff some fishy smell when i crossed the county line. instead i smelled KFC chicken, although there were no KFC anywhere near there.
i was planning to doodle something tonight, or finish up unfinished drawings, but fatigue just kicked in. either that, or food coma.
