crumpled pieces of paper

his desk was mahogany brown, but tonight it was white. white with scattered shades of gray. nothing very dramatic had happened there, he just had a squinggiggilion pieces of paper scattered all over his mahogany brown desk.

he scratched his head. equations running madly in his brain. inner products, conjugates, hydrogen atoms uses spherical coordinates, delta function potentials, delta function perturbation, delta function time-dependent perturbation, second order correction, integral of sine cosine, piecewise continuous wavefunctions, selection rules for absorption and emission, transitions cannot occur from state 200 to state 100, transition may occur from 211 or 21-1 to 100 but the matrix element is zero, einstein's A and B coefficients, lifetime = 1/A.

he banged his head on his desk. that worked quite well to keep his sanity but worked even better in getting rid of all of the equations that have been running nonstop through his brain.

he looked up and looked at the reflection of himself on the window in front of him. he looked miserable. apparently he had pulled his hair and scratched his head frequent enough to make it look completely, entirely, and utterly messed up. he tried fixing it and failed miserably. he tried again and successfully made it look even worse. he was about to try once more but he realized that the first two attempts were nature's way of telling him that resistance was indeed futile, so he gave up.

he looked at the clock. 1130pm. at most he had one more hour before he had to submit to a good night sleep. 1130pm. it had been four hours and twenty minutes since, and it had been four hours and twenty minutes too much for him to handle. obviously resorting to quantum mechanics wasn't a solution, and even if it was, it was a remarkably horrible one.

he scratched his head again, then hated himself for doing it because it made his hair look unbearably even more messed up. he made a mental note telling himself to not scratch his head again, but once he finished making the note he immediately scratched his head again. whoever said that mind and body are one thing was clearly an idiot.

he was about to give up and go sleep when at 1132pm an IM window popped up and alleviated all his anxiety the past four hours and twenty two minutes.

life is good, i guess.

thumbs left

so many things to do, places to go, people to see, and not enough time.

it is funny how this has become a complete cliche since it happens to just about everyone. it is even funnier how this is also easily predictable and the solution is easily doable, yet no one seems to have ever taken initiative to do so.

in the end, no matter what you do, twenty-four hours a day is never enough.

godspeed.
