best BS ever

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington Chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is (of course) why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

"First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time, so we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

"As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the Temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This yields two possibilities:

"1) If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will continue to increase until all Hell breaks loose.

"2) If the volume of Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of the volume of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it?

"If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa Bayman during my Freshman year, that "... it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you" and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having an affair with her, then #2 above cannot be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and will not freeze over."

david is back

been MIA since wednesday morning, our apartmentmate david finally decided to come back today at 9.43pm.

david, if you're reading this: your life sucks right now, so suck it up. it CAN ONLY get worse. keyword ONLY.

xxx holic is definitely the most confusing piece of shit i've ever read, but i'm blaming the translations, not clamp. clamp in themselves are a fucked up shit already. what the hell is it with their mind?

they come and go

random thoughts, that's what i meant.

woke up this morning to the weirdest dream ever. apparently i needed an umbrella and i went to a toystore to get it. what an idiot? the rain has really gotten into me. imagine if i ever get accepted to university of washington for physics grad school.

dirac delta function was a huge piece of crap. but now that i kinda understand it, it doesn't crap as much anymore. keyword kinda.

i realized that wearing sweats is the way to go; it's so comfortable and it helps me take better naps during classtime.

4 sections to grade, 7 problems for 110A, and 7 problems for 105A, all due monday. i better finish the grading by tonight. what a lovely weekend, fits the halloween theme, doesn't it?

jason mraz's on love, in sadness is really good when listened to while doing 105 hw in the lab. apparently it also makes people wonder if i'm crazy because i bob my head up and down.

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION's rewrite, on the other hand, is really good when listened to while walking from class to class alone. i need to watch FMA.

anyone has any crystal kay's songs? motherland was really good, so i want to hear more of her songs.

this site DOES have a 1GB download EVERYDAY. wow. i only have less than 7GB left after upgrading to 10GB of download limit three days ago.

divine intervention

life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
when you think everything's okay and everything's going right
and life has a funny way of helping you out when
you think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
in your face

alanis morisette is definitely one of the very few good things that came out of canada. her song "ironic" immediately came to mind when i received this email:

This e-mail is intended for students enrolled in:
PHYS 105A A00 FA04 Mathematical&Computational Phy

Class - after due consideration, and considerable pleading on the part of several students, I have decided to make this weeks homework assignment due on Monday at 6pm rather than tomorrow, so that students with a physics 110 midterm tomorrow have more time to study. -cheers --DD

many thanks to dubin for having a heart, and to columbine for carrying out a successful mission of "considerable pleading." =)

love is a brittle madness?

sing about that
love is a brittle madness
sing about it in all my sadness
not falsified to say that i found god
so inevitably well it still exists
so pale and fine i can't dismiss
i won't resist
and if i die
well at least i tried
we just lay awake in lust
and rust in the rain
and pour over everything
we say we trust
well it happened again
i listened in like sin
and i'm in like flying again

done and done

you know a midterm is too long if you spent 50 minutes writing without even a slight chance to stop and think about what you just wrote and you still couldn't finish the whole thing.

but it's over. over, and i don't have to worry about this class again until later for the final. stupid little mistakes are made here and there, of course, but whatever, it's over.

now on to 110 midterm for friday. and 105 homework.

i give up

this frustration is never-ending.

special K

i'm tired, and scared.

midterm tomorrow on EnM. my first upperdivision physics midterm. it's 9pm now and i need to really finish my studying before 12, or otherwise i won't be able to wake up for the midterm tomorrow, and that would just be bad.

on a side note, i got distracted while studying yesterday and ended up doodling this.

i think my sanji drawing has gotten better. i really need to learn how to do line shading from kalei-chan.

one piece 207 postponed

which means we won't be seeing the new opening and ending until next week. you leechers better go easy on the bandwidth, otherwise next week you won't get to dl any new ending and openings and (possibly) the new singles from this blog.

oh, did i mention WHY?

here's one fo you leechers

i renewed subscription.

that basically means i added 10 more dollars per month OF MY MONEY so you kids can leech the one piece singles and opening and ending videos. my download limit is 10GB now, so hopefully it will sustain the downloads 5 times longer. this means 10 days, because usually 2GB are gone within 2 days.

leave a message of gratitude, you bastard leechers.

okay, i admit it

1. A foolish, unreasoning, or extravagant passion or attraction.

i found out a way to keep yourself from being distracted from studying. it's very simple, actually, and it's just common sense. all you need is a bigger distraction that overshadows the other distractions. in other words, try to distract yourself from being distracted.

extrapolate that yourself. i'm out.

solution to nonhomogeneous ODE with periodic driving force

so i found out about this after meddling with some physics and wasted about 5 sheets of paper.

if you have a 2nd order non-homogeneous linear differential equation with constant coefficient and periodic driving force like

then the particular solution to this differential equation will always be in the form of

regardless of whether it's a spring with periodic driving force, or LRC circuit. just make sure you get the ODE right.

ah, this saves so much time deriving that shit.

they say curiosity kills

well it does.

think schrodinger's cat. open the box and you'll find that thing dead. curiosity kills the cat.

i just realized that this really really short post has a shitload of things implied in it.

have fun being curious. i'm not telling or sharing.

i love it when david is busy

DoctorPingPhang (8:34:02 PM): how is the studying going for you though?
einztein o07 (8:34:03 PM): peace
einztein o07 (8:34:06 PM): meh
einztein o07 (8:34:07 PM): ok?
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:08 PM): ha hah a
einztein o07 (8:34:14 PM): i found a problem
einztein o07 (8:34:22 PM): that took 4 sheets of paper to do
einztein o07 (8:34:25 PM): front and back
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:28 PM): sweet
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:31 PM): did you get it right though/
einztein o07 (8:34:32 PM): i finished that so i went out for boba
einztein o07 (8:34:34 PM): yes of course
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:34 PM): or you wasted your life?
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:38 PM): good
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:42 PM): aight dog
einztein o07 (8:34:42 PM): psh im not wasting my life like you
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:43 PM): peace!
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:47 PM): shut up
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:52 PM): i am investing my life in something
DoctorPingPhang (8:34:53 PM): not wasting
einztein o07 (8:34:56 PM): you just told me to shut up because you know it's true
einztein o07 (8:36:06 PM): silence
einztein o07 (8:36:08 PM): yes i win!
DoctorPingPhang (8:37:05 PM): because i am super busy right now
DoctorPingPhang (8:37:07 PM): i will let you win
einztein o07 (8:37:09 PM): ha ha ha ha
einztein o07 (8:37:12 PM): awesome
DoctorPingPhang (8:37:13 PM): i am still billions of points ahead of you
DoctorPingPhang (8:37:15 PM): cockboy
einztein o07 (8:37:17 PM): i like it when you're super busy
einztein o07 (8:37:21 PM): who cares
DoctorPingPhang (8:37:30 PM): peace!
einztein o07 (8:37:30 PM): because you have hella points, they're meaningless
einztein o07 (8:37:34 PM): peace

einztein o07 (1:04:54 AM): go sleep
DoctorPingPhang (1:07:00 AM): SHIT dude...i have like...12 pages of lab report
DoctorPingPhang (1:07:04 AM): and still counting
einztein o07 (1:07:06 AM): 12 more?
einztein o07 (1:07:12 AM): or already 12?
DoctorPingPhang (1:07:16 AM): i wrote twelve
einztein o07 (1:07:19 AM): shit
DoctorPingPhang (1:07:19 AM): these things are a bitch
einztein o07 (1:07:30 AM): well, look on the bright side
einztein o07 (1:07:40 AM): prepares you for the scientific paper you will be writing
einztein o07 (1:07:49 AM): i mena, those things can get up to 34 pages and more
einztein o07 (1:07:50 AM): :-P
DoctorPingPhang (1:08:43 AM): ....
DoctorPingPhang (1:08:48 AM): i hate it when you are right
einztein o07 (1:09:06 AM): yes, another point for myself
einztein o07 (1:09:14 AM): i love it when you are busy
einztein o07 (1:09:21 AM): :-D

violently happy

ah, that made my day. thank you.

O (k^2)

earlier today i had plenty of things going on in my mind, but for some reason i decided not to blog those thoughts. i told myself to go study for my physics midterms next week and blog it tonight.

tonight i'm sitting here trying to blog the thoughts i had earlier today, but i couldn't bring them back. they're gone, i have forgotten what i was going to write.

perturbation method perturbs me. heh, that's phunny. pun intended. and i hate transcedental equations. you know you're bound to get some really hard question on the midterm when one of your homework problems require you to expand a term in an equation using taylor expansion, just so that you can do some sick algebraic manipulation that will allow you to expand the resulting term using binomial expansion, only so that you will get a hideous equation, to which you have to perform two more expansions before you can do the hellish final algebraic manipulation that will let you get the answer.

nonlinear dynamics seems like a cool subject, but it's much much too painful to do.

my thoughts are ceaseless,
roaming far, far away, back to those days
when we laughed so innocently together...

but now it broke into pieces
shattered, as if made of glass
so i'm gathering up pieces of my memory
because you realize what's most important
only after you lose them.

living in the world without you
is just like a jigsaw puzzle
still forever missing its pieces and incomplete
Because it is impossible
for anyone to replace you

so please, please stop the time
and let me carve your silhouette onto my chest
if, if it's allowed
i will sacrifice even everything
for that smiling face once again...

by the chain that's called "reality"
we are connected
so even though we're not allowed to dream
we will keep on searching
for the light that illuminates darkness

rum and coke don't taste so good. it's too sweet and too bitter at the same time. alcohol mixed in drinks are never good. shotglasses are still the best.

my hitcount went up to 6 as tonight i took another 4 hits along with dan and ryan from physics. when physics people gather together and smoke, you know one of them is bound to fuck something up and win a nobel prize for that.

hmm, dry ice in a sealed coke bottle.

hmm, dry ice in pretzel jars.

i should send that as a christmas gift to the bush administration.

i haven't felt that for quite a while.

until now.

start early, finish late

yeah, the above statement is true. apparently no matter how early you start for 105a homework, you'll always end up finishing it late.

in the beginning was the word

when god created the human beings, he must have used caffeine somehow. because there is definitely no life before caffeine.

okay, so i DO have a huge crush on this pretty girl in my physics class with a fabulous hair. but that does not mean i have to make a move on her, does it? why does everyone keep telling me to? can't it just forever be a crush?

besides, she's way too hot and too smart for me. it's like a frog wanting to jump over the moon.

i remember a line from smallville. i have no idea why it popped out in my mind since i wasn't doing or thinking anything relevant to that. so i consider this a moment of enlightenment, even though i'm not quite sure how it is enlightening.

clark: mom, what would you do if you can see through everything?
mom: learn to close my eyes.

maybe it's just one of those moments when your subconsciousness takes over to tell you something isn't right.

then again, if i can see through everything, hell i would never blink once, let alone close my eyes. can you imagine how many boobs you can actually see with superman vision?

david's screaming "help, help..." in his sleep. should i go wake him up?

nah. he's probably dreaming about gay guys hitting on him. he'll figure out a way out of it.

i love it when people murmur stuff while they're asleep. those things are just totally random.

my parents told me that once when i was 7 years old i had a phone conversation with someone when i was asleep.

university of washington

parents came today with a bunch of food. and the highlight of the day: homemade steak, family recipe. i just realized i haven't had that since my grandma passed away back when i was in 8th grade. i remember my grandma used to make me that steak at least once a week, because she knew it's my favorite food in the world.

mom came bringing my mails. got my new driver's license, and unexpectedly, a letter from the physics department of university of washington in seattle. wow. and i was thinking about going there. they read my mind.

i do not know if such a thing is supposed to serve as a motivator or DEmotivator. looking at the statistics of the average GPA and average GRE scores of the incoming graduate students, personally i feel discouraged. average general GRE is 80 percentile and physics GRE is 810, while average GPA is 3.8. holy mother monkey. apparently i was the one who's undermining UW. who knew that UW is one of the top-notch school in physics?

but on the other hand, i also feel motivated to bring up my grades. but then again, my laziness always kicks in and washed away all the motivation.

i should just be a bum and not worry about these kinda things.

the sith lords

knights of the old republic II: the sith lords is coming out this december for xbox. those bastards from lucasarts are being assholes again and wont release the pc version until february 2005

go watch the trailer. i don't mind spending $50 to buy this game the day it comes out. this is a-must-buy for me, especially with the new progressive animation that features more lightsaber moves as your character levels up. ah, i miss those lightsaber duels. maybe i'll play the first one again for the seventh time if i have time.

pain killer

people are breaking up. bad, bad year.

sorry val, but don't be so sad. be glad because it happened, don't be sad because it's over.

remember someone once said "if everyone in this world were as nice to each other as val was to me, the world would be 40, no, 41 times better than it currently is."

that quote is old, and maybe you don't want to remember it again, but it is true. it is very true.

conscience rules

sam's conscience beat himself in an argument.

sam: har har har! nothing can stop me now!!
conscience: well duh, nothing can stop you if you're going nowhere.
sam: ........ dammit.

that is the most original demotivator i've heard all month long. props to sam's conscience.

had a near death experience today.

david came back with dry ice again, and this time we decided to do it inside our own bathroom so the neighbors won't call the cops.

so we had a small bottle of crystal geyser, filled with some dry ice. our plan was to pour water in it, seal it with the cap, put it on the bathtub, and cover it with pretzel jar to contain the blast. that way we can watch it from close distance without getting hurt.

well, even a bio major, a chem major, and a physics major combined can be wrong.

the explosion was huge, and not only it shattered the crystal geyser bottle to pieces, it completely destroyed the pretzel jar as well. the explosion was deafening, and almost shattered our eardrums as well. i felt the pain jolted thru my ear straight to the brain, and for a few seconds i thought i was dead. i wasn't dead, but my ear felt like it was bleeding. i was deaf for a few minutes. it was scary.

the funny thing was, david and sam and i were all cracking up, even though we couldn't even hear our own laugh. as of now my ears are still hurting. i really hope i don't become completely deaf tomorrow morning.

absolutely ZERO

you, you were a friend
you were a friend of mine
i let you spend the night
you see, it was my fault
of course it was my...
i'm too hard at work
have you ever heard of anything so absurd ever in your life?
i'm sorry for wasting your time

who am i to say this situation isn't great?
when it's my job to make the most of it
of course i didn't know that it would happen to me
not that easy

hey, what's that you say?
you're not blaming me for anything
well that's great but i don't break that easy
does it fade away?
so that why i'm, i'm apologizing now
for telling you i thought that we could make it
i just don't get enough to believe
that we've both changed

see who am i to say this situation isn't great?
it is my time to make the most of it
of course i didn't know
that it would happen to me
not that easy, no
no, no, no

if all along the fault is up for grabs
why can't you have it?
if it's for sale what is your offer?
i will sell it for no less than what i bought it for
pay no more than absolutely zero
well neither one of us deserves the blame
because opportunities moved us away
it's not an easy thing to learn to play
a game that's made for two
that's you and me
the rules remain a mystery
see how it's easy

so who am i to say this situation isn't great?
well it's our time to make the most of it
how could we ever know that this would happen to me?
not that easy, no
no, oh oh
when all along the fault is up for grabs
and there you have it
well it's for sale
go make your offer
well i'd sell it for no less than what i bought it for
pay no more than absolutely zero

the death of superman

this time it's for real. and he's not coming back.

christopher reeve was a great guy. go pay tribute to him. his whole life has been dedicated to the spinal cord research, and after years of enduring pain, he died.

that reminds me of kristin's favorite sentence: "life sucks and then you die."

1000 things

and i'm, i'm overjoyed i'm over loved and i'm feeling lucky
like a little boy who's just, who's hiding under cover
and looking to discover every way to play the part inside this darkened cave
the meaning of life well it starts at the nightlight
close your eyes and i hope you see mine

and i, well i've seen a thousand things in one place
but i stopped my counting when i saw your face
erasing memory well i feel as though i've never seen a face before
until i saw your eyes
and they're smiling back at me through my tears
i've been counting all these years, oh
suddenly the thousand things i've seen were
nothing more than dreams of you and me
you and me quietly at a stand still now
fortunately you will
when you kiss me i will, i will kiss you back
oh fact of the matter is and i don't know what the latter is, oh no way
see i've always wanted to kiss you but i
i always wanted to run from you
because i've always wanted to miss you
and i, i've always wanted to come for you

well a lover might comfort fool to say
while you wait say
how do you do

wow. this would never end, but i couldnt stand 15 seconds looking at it. i guess i get bored pretty quick.

i was doing 110a homework at plaza while waiting for 2 of my 1c students to come when i realize that the piece of paper i was using to write my homework on started glowing. so i stepped back a bit and noticed that the setting sun shone through this one window in plaza cafe and illuminated the table i was sitting on. i stepped back a bit farther and realized that my table is the only one the sunlight shone upon.

this has got to be it, the moment of enlightenment.

nothing is funny. that was just me laughing at my life.

came back from doing homework at 4am this morning, slept for 5 hours, went to school at 10, and did not come back until 9pm tonight. now i will head back to school again in an hour and stayed there the whole night to work on my homework.

that was just me laughing again at how ridiculous and sad my live has become.

flyin' high and trippin' balls

sam and i got all high. look at how much we smoked.

and this is the remains of the 2L coke bottle that david and i turned into deadly explosive. it added a certain something in the pleasure of exploding things when after the explosion your neighbors came out and yelled "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?"

had 4 hours of sleep last night because of the stupid 100a hw. i managed parametrize the line integral path in cylindrical coordinate. apparently the answer was in front of my eyes the WHOLE ENTIRE TIME, i just didn't realize it.

TA'd four sections today, and now my legs are dead and my brains are tired after six hours of walking here and there from one lab table to another, teaching people what to do on their labs

i have a slacker TA partner. he was all complaining how the lab instructor wont let him get a cup of coffee. i mean, i'm chill and all, but you dont get paid to sit on your ass, eat your lunch, and then out to grab a cup of coffee after finishing your lunch, only to come back when the lab is over. people like these are the reason why so many students are complaining about their physics TA being useless and why people think physics is hard. it's not that physics is hard, it's just that chances are you get sloppy lazyass engineering students TAing for the class. so when you're taking a physics class, ask your TA what major he is. if he's not a physics major, chances are he'll suck ass.

seriously. people should not be allowed to TA classes they arent majoring in. even if you, an engineering major, get an A on that introductory physics class you need for your GE, does not mean you should be allowed to TA for that class. that's the same reasoning why people like MYSELF should never be allowed to TA for chem or biology, let alone social science.

i just realized i did not blog yesterday. dammit. there goes my blogging run since like what? april?

my calculations have been working miracles lately. i've always gotten a place to sit on the bus every morning. a brief moment of my day that i use to stare out of the window of a moving bus while the beautiful voice of yuri nakamura singing in my ears. peaceful moments, good times.

made some new friends, or rather, acquaintance, today in 1cl. some girls were hitting on me and asked for my phone number, but of course they were joking. mother nature isn't that kind to let hot girls hit on me. someday, maybe someday, when the big mama is bored out of her mind, she'll make some hot girls hit on me, just to amuse herself when i got totally screwed over.

thanks katie for buying me lunch because i was stuck in the 1cl lab from 11 to 5. i will love you forever for that hamburger.

been a long road to follow
been there and gone tomorrow
without saying goodbye to yesterday

all the memories ahold
still there left
oh hath the tears deluded them?

maybe this time tomorrow
the rain will cease to follow
and the mist will fade into a more today
something's all the way up there keeps going
am I going home?
will I hear someone?
singing solace to this silence

zero gravity
would take less

is somebody there beyond this sadly aching feat
still the road keeps telling me to go on

something is pulling me
i feel the gravity
of it all

tara got this weird little finger puppet today when buying her lunch, and she gave it to me as a gift. my first response was: "this has got to be the ugliest shit ever."

but it's a gift, so i decided to keep it and name it FU. like fuu-chan from champloo, but just not as cute.

wtf, i had 208 pageviews yesterday, but only a few unique visitor. usually it fluctuates between 50 to 100 but yesterday it goes up to 208. i wonder who has so much time in his hands to refresh this page over and over again like an idiot. you know who you are. let me know.

keiko hanasaki

is one of the best one piece fanartist i've ever seen. these are some of her work; i wish i can draw and color like that.
